The resources you see below have been provided by the Ministry of Education and are available to all teachers. Once you join OBEA you will gain access to an extensive collection of business studies resources. These resources have been provided by business teachers, workshop presenters and business organizations and are available exclusively to our members.

New CPA's School Accounting Modules
Certified Professional Accountants

CPA Canada's School Accounting Modules (SAMs), available in Simply Accounting and QuickBooks for Windows, are designed to serve as curriculum for secondary school students in Grades 11 and 12. Its five computer-based accounting modules allow students to learn and apply their accounting and business skills in the classroom. Author Tim Ireland, head of the business department at Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver, credits the program with “getting students out of textbooks and giving them a hands-on and realistic sense of what an accounting business is like.”

CPA Ontario is pleased to provide one copy of SAMs, per teacher, free of charge. The School Accounting Modules are available in electronic PDF format file or hard copy. This resource can be ordered online through CGA Ontario's website located at www.cga-ontario.org. Please access the Secondary School section under Teacher. Risk Responsibility Reality, premiered at OBEA Spring Conference 2006, is a teacher's resource based on three humorous vignettes with curriculum-ready lessons and activity sheets included. This resource enables teachers of law to introduce students to concepts such as duty of care, legal contracts, legal liability, ethical behaviour and social responsibility in an interactive and engaging learning experience complete with real legal case studies. For grades 9 to 12 (includes 18min DVD, 68 pages, 2007, CSC approved).

You're IN Business, premiered at OBEA Spring Conference 2007, introduces students to the business of insurance. The resource develops a student's innovation and critical thinking by creating their own insurance company venture. Students will learn real world lessons in areas of business ethics, marketing, business leadership, finance and entrepreneurship. Core values of insurance such as understanding liability, utmost good faith and risk management are also taught. For Grades 9 to12 (7 lessons with 21 activities, 84 pages, 2007).
