Second Annual Win $5000 for your school!

CMA Ontario is committed to improving the social and educational environment of secondary schools.

After a comprehensive review of resources from multiple school boards and having listened to the concerns of educators and students, CMA Ontario has decided to provide secondary schools with what they want most - a funding opportunity that allows them to incorporate their own strategy, management and accounting skills for a specific school project! Two secondary schools in Ontario will be awarded the $5000 because of the effort and creativity from their students in the make !t happen – $5000 School Improvement Contest Awards.

What Do We Need to Do?
Gather together a team of 4 to 10 students. Find a staff supervisor to work with. Get a letter of approval from your Principal to submit with the proposal. Register your team online at www.cma-ontario.org/makeithappen. Go to the Register to Win tab.

Brainstorm ideas or poll students to identify the real needs in your school. Use the checklist on the other side to help organize your bid.

Your proposal must be sustainable and feasible and answer the questions: “Why is my school most deserving of $5000? How will we use the funds to best meet a real need in our school?” The CMA Selection Committee has to be convinced that this need is REALISTIC for the team to implement.

How do we apply?
The make !t happen Awards are open to all secondary school students. You know what your school needs and how to meet that need. This is your chance to make !t happen!

Proposal Format
Your proposal can be, but is not limited to an entertaining multimedia production of 5 to 8 minutes. It could be a PowerPoint with video clips and voice over; a videotaped rap, play, portfolio, album, or documentary. Use your creativity to presents the ideas in your team’s proposal clearly.

Use every tool at your disposal to provide insight into the student body, school clubs, school spirit, athletic teams, average school day, resources of the school and school image.

Communicate your enthusiasm and school spirit. This is your project. You are leading it. Let us know why you must make !t happen. (Note: the technical quality of the production will not be a determining factor in the award.)

Be sure to follow the $5000 School Improvement Contest Checklist to include elements of Management, Strategy and Accounting in your proposal. (Note: The winners of the 2007/2008 contest were those that closely followed the items on this checklist)

How do we register?

Register your team online at www.cma-ontario.org/makeithappen.
